Netflix’s The Witcher season 3 volume 1 premieres on June 29th, and as we have anticipated, the series incorporates all of the drama, magic, emotion, and Ciri’s fate from the previous season. The trio of Ciri-Yennefer-Geralt is seen sharing prolific sequences, and Henry Cavill is killing it as Geralt of the Rivia. The Witcher season 3 is scheduled to release in two parts, the first volume released on June 29th, and the second will release on July 27th this month.

The Witcher season 3 is an action-adventure, fantasy-thriller series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, based on the fantasy novel written by Andrzej Sapkowski. The series casts Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri, Eamon Farren as Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aepCeallach, and other actors in prominent characters. The Witcher season 3 is produced by Little Schmidt Productions, Platige Image, and Hivemind.

This time season 3 the Witcher is based on Time of Contempt from the second novel of the Witcher Saga. Before the release, the series faced a backlash from die-hard fans as it is Henry Cavill’s last appearance as Geralt of Rivia.

The Witcher season 3 volume 1 consists of five episodes of 50-60 minutes of runtime each. Let us explore the good and bad of season 3 The Witcher so that you guys can decide whether it is worth your time or not.

The Witcher Season 3 has Surprises for Everyone

In the first episode of The Witcher season 3, the makers have done it right by briefly introducing the purpose and characters of all the antagonists and protagonists. Geralt and Yennefer are dedicated to making Ciri learn and use her enormous powers in the right way to face the evils and protect her from all the manipulation and captivation that can approach her.

Henry Cavill has perfectly bid farewell to his character, Geralt of Rivia. The top-notch acting and embodiment of Geralt could only be delivered by Henry Cavill. It will be challenging for Liam Hemsworth to fit into Cavill’s shoes and an even tougher job for the audience to accept someone else playing their favorite character on screen.

Witcher Season 3

Good news for Yennefer and Geralt’s shippers as they are (spoiler alert) sharing some emotional and romantic sequences in The Witcher season 3 volume 1, picking up from where they left off in the second season. While the previous seasons were focused more on Geralt-Ciri’s bond, this season, Yennefer and Ciri share a few strong student-mentor moments and much more than that.

The makers have dedicated an entire episode to Ciri to ensure that the rest of the series can be carried on her shoulders. They surely plan to build Ciri and Jaskier’s romantic angle as they share some sweet and funny moments this season.

The Witcher season 3 has a stellar supporting cast. Graham McTavish (Sigismund Dijkstra), Cassie Clare (Philippa Eilhart), Hugh Skinner (Radovid), MyAnnaBuring (Tissaaia de Vries), Therica Wilson-Read (Sabrina), Margarita Laux-Antille (Margarita), Safiyya Ingar (Keira) has justified their characters with a top-notch performance.

What Were the Underwhelming Aspects of The Witcher Season 3?

One of the underwhelming aspects of season 3 The Witcher is that the audience wanted more of the trio scenes, and the makers, to establish the storyline and character development, inculcated lesser scenes of the trio together.

Geralt is stubborn to find the fire mage Rience to finish his threat. Yennefer takes Ciri to Aretuza to train her, and amidst all of these, the trio fans might be disappointed. Although, it is somewhere beneficial for the whole story.

The other underwhelming aspect is the fast travel, in which distances between two continents are covered in mere minutes, unlike the previous seasons, where the distance covered highlighted the length of the journey and the incidences that add elements to the story. This season it seemed like the makers were rushing into it.

Is Ciri’s Biggest Threat his Father in The Witcher Season 3?

At the end of The Witcher season 3, it is revealed that the face behind the mysterious white flame is Ciri’s father (played by Bart Edwards). Season 3 of The Witcher relies either on upcoming episodes in volume 2 or the next season about the fate of the father-daughter duo.

The ending of season 3 the Witcher Volume 1, still left us with questions only to be answered in Volume 2. Volume 2 will premiere on July 27th only on Netflix.

The Witcher season 3 is indeed a good watch with few flaws. With an 84% rating from critics on rotten tomatoes, audiences are keen on volume 2 of season 3 The Witcher.

Let’s have a look at some of the reviews:-

Ed Power wrote:-

“With wonderfully grimy production values, it never looks like you’re watching a bunch of cosplayers en route to Comic-Con. Yet for all those plusses, The Witcher struggles once more to tell a coherent story – even the subplots have subplots.”

Brian Lowry wrote:-

“Cavill could leave on a relatively high note, thanks to a tighter, more focused third season, at least initially, than the second offered.”

Clint Worthington wrote:-

“There’s still plenty of that high-camp energy to get by—Cavill’s arched eyebrow and taciturn grunts, his chemistry with the scene-stealing Chalotra, Batey’s frazzled comic relief, and the big-budget creature brawls.”
