Check everything about Shazam Fury of the Gods movie review, critics’ and fans’ opinions here. So, after much delay, the DC’s most awaited sequel Shazam Fury of the Gods, is finally here, only to mark the return of Zachary Levi as the fun teenage superhero. And he is as amazing as we saw in the 2019 Shazam, where he was an orphaned boy who acquired supernatural powers to save the world and gets on the tricks he required to trade during his adventure-filled journey.

Speaking of the film’s overall story, Director David F. Sandberg has tried hard to make Shazam 2 a worthy sequel to the Shazam movie that we had seen before. And in no denial, we say he has done pretty well to keep the same intact as we expected from the film for a DC Extended Universe.

The second part of the Shazam is hilariously amazing, but we fear the Fury of the Gods not to go underrated as its predecessor. Therefore, we recommend seeing the Shazam sequel, which is as entertaining as the 2019 Shazam.

Shazam 2 Cast Brings Back the Charm and Saves the Day For Fury of the Gods!

Zachary Levi as Billy Batson and Jack Dylan Grazer as Shazam’s sidekick brings the much-needed charm on screen. The chemistry both brothers share onscreen is a popular highlight of the Shazam sequel. And, on top of his super-talented team, captivates us more on the screen. This includes Eugene Choi, Darla Dudley, Pedro Pena, and Mary Bromfield. As the powerful team discovers ways to use their newly acquired powers, three goddesses, the daughters of Atlas, namely Hespera, Anthea, and Kalypso, arrive from the shadows. Their vengeance mode serves as an alarm for Shazam and his team, which now comes at loggers with the trio as they seek revenge for their father’s death and take back the supernatural power they lost centuries ago.

As both powerful forces encounter each other, their fight takes everyone on a thrilling-fun-filled ride. But we must tell here that the Shazam team must work more on their jokes if they return the next time. Yes, of course, you people are funny, but you must not struggle to make us all laugh as you did this time. Anyways, let’s get back into the thing.

Ok, director David F. Sandberg, writers Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, and the acclaimed stars Zachary Levi, Meagan Good, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Asher Angel, Rachel Zegler, Ross Butler, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, Helen Mirren, have done a good job. You all have made Shazam Fury of the Gods a must-watch film of 2023.

And how can we forget the three new characters we met in the theatres? Lucy Liu, Helen Mirren, and Rachel Zegler completely saved the day for Shazam 2. Rachel Zegler as Helen’s sister Anthea delivers a formidable performance that makes her a strong antagonist in Shazam. Although, this comes as a shocking fact that Rachel took Anthea as she was jobless at the time and was facing a really hard time taking good work for her acting career. But we will get on that some other day. Today, we are only here for performance reviews.

We are also pleased to watch Helen Mirren as Hesper, especially those hard-hitting action sequences, went beyond what we expected of her. In her initial days of film shooting, Mirren used to be quite nervous on the sets. If reports are to be believed, Helen also got her one finger broken filming an action sequence.

Moving on, there is Lucy Liu as Kalypso gives a tough time to the power of the DC superheroes. But if we have to praise the film’s protagonist the same way, the words are going to fall short! As said, Shazam needs to work more on their jokes; it is especially meant for Zachary as Shazam doesn’t improve well with his character, despite receiving enough screen time to portray his hilarious side.

Shazam Fury of the Gods Plot is Entertaining, But Kiddish Moments Slow Downs the Story

Shazam Fury of the Gods

Shazam Fury of the Gods plot is something we would love deep dive in. And, while you aren’t preventing breaking any spoilers here, you have your own experience. We must say every fitting scene in Fury of the Gods is worth standing and whistling for. And this time, it is also worth noting how director David F. Sandberg has allowed enough time for his characters to connect with the audience. The dialogue delivery is on point and falls right to place while it passes the witty one-liners at Shazam and the team and simultaneously takes a dig at the evils.

Now that’s a different point that, at moments, Shazam Fury of the Gods becomes too kiddish as we read some comic book. Yes, we are watching a comic book adaptation, but if it’s a film format, it has to be more mature with its climax and other twists. The visual effects were pretty good but needed improvement to offer a more realistic experience onscreen.

And, of course, the DC’s new approach of connecting its superhero stories to form a big multiverse is well highlighted by Shazam 2. Still, it seems like the production team focused less on the concept, especially when the DC’s new co-heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran, disclosed their mission for the DC Extended Universe. Maybe it’s because the next DC film, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, will contribute the most on that front. Perhaps, James has some special plans to follow the DC’s new plans with The Flash ashes.

Shazam Fury of the Gods has scored 55% on Rotten Tomatoes so far, while the final score still awaits. Speaking about the critics review on Shazam Fury of the Gods, the Shazam sequel has garnered mixed responses from the eagled eye movie geeks.

Calling Shazam sequel a fun-filled cluttered film, Nell Minow from Movie Mom pens- It is fun to watch but a lot of clutter and especially a lot of CGI overwhelms the plot and all-but obliterates the tenderness of the first story,

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh from Metro Newspaper writes- Star supervillain casting can’t save the awkward sequel.

Whereas the first Shazam! Felt like a refreshing throwback to the kid adventures of the 80s and the superhero movies of the early 2000s, Shazam! Fury of the Gods feels like a creaky leftover of the mid-2010sm writes Hoai-Tran Bui from Inverse.

Mick LaSalle from San Franciso Chronicle says Zegler can do better, Levi can do better, and Certainly, Mirren and Liu can do better.
