When and Where Can You Watch Christopher Nolan Movie Oppenheimer?

Oppenheimer exploded theatres (not literally) on 21st July 2023. Made on a budget of $100 million, the film collected $590 million globally. After garnering a positive response from theatre audiences, Oppenheimer movie is all set to win the hearts of its OTT viewers as well.

Looking at the huge buzz for the biopic, many streaming giants, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Peacock, entered the race to purchase the film’s streaming rights. After multiple negotiations and discussions, Oppenheimer is reportedly making its Amazon Prime Video debut the next month.

However, that doesn’t mean the other two streaming giants, Peacock and Netflix, will not release the biopic thriller. Following the streaming deal between Peacock and Universal Pictures, Oppenheimer will also release on the streaming platform four months after the film’s theatrical release. Now it’s only Netflix which is yet to confirm Oppenheimer’s release on its streaming service.

Besides these, HBO Max has also bagged the digital rights to release Oppenheimer on their television channel.

But, since none of the streaming platforms or the HBO television network confirmed an Oppenheimer release date, the OTT and TV viewers will have to wait a little to know exactly when they can stream Oppenheimer movie on any of these platforms.

What is Oppenheimer All About?

The documentation of the career of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer is what Christopher Nolan’s biopic thriller is all about. The film focuses on Oppenheimer’s participation in developing the world’s first nuclear weapons, later used to destroy the two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Army General Groves recruits J. Robert Oppenheimer to join the team of scientists at Los Alamos Laboratory and develop an atomic bomb to defeat the Nazis.

When the expert team, including Niels Bohr, Richard Feynman, Lewis Strauss, J, Robert Oppenheimer, and many others, manufactured for what they were hired, they conducted a trinity test to test its impact.

They exploded the bombs and could see the positive results from 100 miles away. While the experiment’s success elated the scientist team, it was Oppenheimer who seemed unhappy with the results. Oppenheimer’s humanity did not allow him to spark any celebration of the experiment’s success. Instead of feeling pride in his work, the theoretical physicist was quite guilty of creating an atomic bomb that could kill thousands of lives.

Indeed all his imaginations were true. On 16th July 1945, the United States of America exploded two bombs namely Little Boy and Fatman in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki leading to thousands of deaths and destruction.

The explosion was such terrifying that it left Oppenheimer in regrets for creating a product that leads to endless deaths. Fearing the worst, when Oppenheimer decided to stop the development of these bombs by expressing his concerns to the government he faced the wrath in response.

A committee was then held to decide whether the theoretical physicist should receive a security clearance. Amidst all these development, destruction, discussions, and decisions we also catch a glimpse at the personal life of Oppenheimer where we see his equation with his wife played by Emily Blunt, and mistress played by Florence Pugh.

By the time we journey Oppenheimer’s life, we realize how Oppenheimer actually was. He was a man with great conviction who firmly stood for what he felt was right. Instead of simply doing what he was hired for, he also voiced his opinions raised from humanitarian grounds. But while his concerns were left unheard, they were enough for us to see Oppenheimer’s real side. While he called himself the destroyer of the world, we know he was the only one who cared.

Oppenheimer is currently available in cinemas. Hurry up and book your tickets now. Wait a little more if you want to stream the biopic thriller on OTT and at last, keep coming back to Popgeek.
