Guardians of the Galaxy 4: A New Team to Take Over in MCU?

So, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 finally exploded in theatres and in our hearts on 5th May 2023. The James Gunn film, which concluded the Guardians trilogy in the most exciting way, saw huge commercial success, grossing $659.1 million at Box Office. But on the one hand, where Guardians of the Galaxy 3 culminated the journey of the intergalactic mercenaries, fans are already wondering if there will be Guardians of the Galaxy 4 in the franchise that continues the story in MCU’s next phase.

While there is no certainty about that, contemplating that the Guardians are one of the most adorable superheroes of the MCU and they still have a lot to do with their respective characters, especially with Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, or the newly found Guardians team, possibilities are higher we can see Guardians of the Galaxy 4 in Marvel’s next phase projects. Yes, you heard that right.

We even have some reasons which make the possibility of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4 a reality. So, if you want to find out what those possibilities are or what the new team of Guardians will look like, what the story will be, and who will be the new and returning faces, just continue reading ahead.

What Will Be Guardians of the Galaxy 4 Be About, and How Will MCU Make Another Guardians Story?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has successfully touched viewers’ heartstrings, leaving them wondering if there will be Guardians of the Galaxy 4 ahead. James Gunn, who has directed the Guardians trilogy over the years, has once stated that he always had visioned the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 to conclude the impressive lineup of the intergalactic mercenaries everyone has loved in these years.

And when he successfully did so, he also left the door open for MCU to start a new Guardians story in the future. 10/10 on that. What an amazing craftsman he is to do so. But since Gunn has paved the way to kick off a new Guardians story, what do you think the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4 can be all about? What are the possibilities MCU can make another Guardians story?

Well, I think there are fewer possibilities for the MCU to make another Guardians film by focusing on a new team of Guardians. If you remember, the mid-credit scene of Guardians Vol 3 introduced us to the new Guardians team consisting of Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Cosmo the Space Dog (Maria Bakalova), Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), and Phyla-Vell (Kai Zen), who could be the new band that we may see in Guardians of the Galaxy 4.

In the mid-credit scene, they all were standing approaching the desert village where Rocket, played by Bradley Cooper, was playing the Redbone song ‘’Come and Get Your Love,’’ which is the same song we heard at the beginning of the first Guardians movie through Peter Quill’s Walkman. While fans thought playing the song was the perfect way to conclude the trilogy in a full circle, some also thought it was a sign of a new beginning since the new Guardians team had formed again. So, hopefully, a new Guardians team will be taking over in MCU.

However, there is another way MCU can continue the Guardian’s story. They can follow the dismantled Guardians team again as they venture on their new paths. For instance, in the post-credit of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Peter Quill/Start-Lord and his paternal grandfather were conversing over breakfast. Quill’s Grandpa, who is reading a newspaper in the scene, has a headline- Alien Abduction- Kevin Bacon Tells All.

The news is a fun way to signify the moment when Mantis and Drax abduct Kevin for Quill to cheer him up on Christmas in Guardians Holiday Special. As the scene ends, a text which reads- The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return appears on the screen, which further confirms that Marvels will continue the story of Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill. Now whether they will continue his story with Guardians Vol 4 or think of a new Guardians chain is uncertain at the moment.

Similarly, Rocket and Groot were seen with the new Guardians team, so chances are higher MCU can pick their story as well. Meanwhile, Mantis has gone on a self-discovery journey but can also come back if a new threat approaches the Guardians.

Speaking about Drax and Gamora, it’s quite unfortunate, but no MCU fan will get to see them ever again. Dave Bautista, who essayed Drax in MCU movies, has no plans to continue playing the role anymore as he thinks his character has got the perfect ending in Vol 3, and he is quite happy with that. Meanwhile, Zoe Saldana, who played Gamora, also said Vol 3 had got the end of Gamora, and there would be no way anyone could see her in future Marvel projects again.

Who Will Be in the Guardians of the Galaxy 4?

Since we are only assuming the Guardians’ characters’ future in MCU, it is too early to say who will be the confirmed cast of Guardians of the Galaxy 4. Although possibilities are higher, we may see the return of many familiar members. For instance, Chris Pratt/Peter Quill has a complete chance to reprise his role since the Vol 3 ending itself confirmed The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, who plays Rocket and Groot, may also return in Vol 4 alongside Pom Klementeiff and Kraglin, who did Mantis and Nebula so far. If Will Poulter returns as Adam Warlock, his character will be explored in a detailed way this time.

Regarding the new cast, Phyla-Vell, played by Kai Zen, may have a prominent role in the future Guardians film. Phyla-Vell is the daughter of Mar-Vell and is one of the most peculiar characters in Marvel comic books. Since she was introduced in the mid-credit scene of Guardians Vol 3, it has also left fans speculating about her full-fledged role in future Guardians films. While nothing as such is confirmed by the production house yet, it will be intriguing to see how MCU pens her fate with the Guardians team ahead.

When Will Guardians of the Galaxy 4 Release?

Marvels has not announced the Guardians of the Galaxy 4 release date. And, since James Gunn, who brought the Guardians idea to life for Marvels, has stepped down from the directing duties and also dismantled the Guardians team in Vol 3, the production studio will require significant time to build a new story for a new team of intergalactic mercenaries and get new directors and writers on board alongside.

Also, considering that Kevin Feige has already scheduled the upcoming MCU Phase 6 films till May 2026, which sees the release of Avengers: Secret Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4 can only get a release date after the specified date. But, since the cast, crew, and script of the speculated Guardians film is also yet to finalize, Vol 4 is far away from a 2026 release as well. Only time will tell the tale of when and how Guardians of the Galaxy 4 hits the big screen.

Are There Any Guardians of the Galaxy 4 trailer?

A big no! There is no trailer for Guardians Vol 4 at the moment. Since everything regarding Guardians Vol 4 announcement, script, cast, crew, and filming still needs to be done, expecting a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy 4 is an impossible thing. Although, if we get any updates on it, we will keep you in the loop.

Where Can You Watch Guardians of the Galaxy 4?

Much like other Guardians films, Guardians of the Galaxy 4 will have a theatrical release once Marvels completes the production work for the movie. And after it swings in theatres, the production house will stream it on Disney Plus within 60 days of its big screen release. Are you excited?

Guardians of the Galaxy 4 is just speculation at the moment. We shall wait for the official confirmation to reveal pieces of confirmed news for the untitled project. And until and unless we do so, you can enjoy watching the rest of Guardians Vol 1 and Vol 2 on Disney Plus, and with context to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, you can stream the movie from 28th July 2023 on the same streaming platform. Have a good Guardian time, folks!
