Johnny Depp Vs Amber Heard: A Quick Recap of the Real Courtroom Drama!

The infamous defamation court trial between Depp and Heard was the most popular court trial in the world. A court case began in 2016 and concluded in 2022, led to the verdict in favor of the Fantastic Beasts actor Johnny Depp.

Let’s get on where it all started.

One year after their marriage, Aquaman actress Amber Heard filed for divorce from her husband, Johnny Depp, in May 2016, which the court eventually granted. However, during those trials, Amber Heard even complained against Depp for physically abusing her while drunk.

In response to her complaint, the court issued a restraining order against Depp, who denied all these false allegations stating that Amber was attempting to negotiate the divorce settlement by making false accusations which neither proved true by the police themselves.

In August 2016, the duo settled their legal matter out of court, post which Johnny paid a hefty $7 million to ex-wife Amber Heard. A few publications after that reported that Amber had donated half of the compensatory amount to a children’s hospital in Los Angeles and the other half to the American Civil Liberties Union. Again, it was a lie later proved wrong in the trials.

During this time, the ex-Hollywood couple released a joint statement to the public stating that their relationship had ended and there was no intent of physical or emotional harm by either side.

In January 2017, their divorce was finalized, and everything then went smoother. In their divorce filings, the ex-couple inserted a non-disparagement clause to avoid making any derogatory remarks against each other in the future. Amber Heard became the first one to disobey the clause.

In December 2018, Amber released an article about being a victim of sexual violence in The Washington Post. And while she never mentioned Johnny Depp’s name anywhere because she was only married to actor Johnny Depp, it became evident that she made those remarks against him.

A furious Depp filed a defamation case of $50 million against her ex-wife in 2019 and claimed she was not the victim but the real culprit of the domestic violence. Amber filed to dismiss the defamation case and gave examples of abuse done by Depp towards her. Similar action was witnessed by Depp’s side as well.

During the court trials, their marriage counselor revealed both participated in abuse. And a few statements from their respective psychologists revealed that Depp was dealing with anger management issues during his marriage while his ex-wife was suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder and Histrionic Personality Disorder, because of which she often gets violent with people around her, including her romantic partners.

Until now, Depp and Heard’s legal feud became a talk of the town on social media, with their fans engaging in a war of words giving rise to trends – #mentoo and #believeallewomen. Every influencer and general public keenly followed the live coverage of their trials and shared their opinion on the matter.

After multiple trials in June 2022, Depp finally proved that all the allegations made against him by his ex-wife Heard were false, as a result of which the jury announced the final verdict in his favor.
