Tom Colicchio on childhood hunger

This is what people don't understand: obesity is a symptom of poverty. It's not a lifestyle choice where people are just eating and not exercising. It's because kids - and this is the problem with school lunch right now - are getting sugar, fat, empty calories - lots of calories - but no nutrition.

[link] BP boycott: BP gas station boycott misses target

Whatever impact a boycott of retail gasoline sales may have on the company will be scant compared with the potential damage to the independent station owners and their employees.

I get the rage, and I share it. But BP gas goes to MANY stations without the BP brand, as well as 1,200 airports in 90 countries, and 1,000 ports (according to the article above).

So maybe we should be working toward much firmer government oversight of these assholes in charge of BP, who seem to be more worried about their cocaine parties and dividends, and not focusing on keeping these station owners and their employees from putting food on their tables.
